BECAUSE CHILDHOOD IS ONCE IN A LIFETIME
Childhood only happens once in a lifetime. This is why we strive to make every preschool experience a magical one.
Childhood only happens once in a lifetime. This is why we strive to make every preschool experience a magical one.
Playshare Pre-School will keep assisting in teaching children early fundamental development goals such as helping to develop their sense of self, self-esteem, their social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and aesthetic abilities.
Lisa believes that early childhood learning is about three fundamentals: Wonder (to wonder about things )… As adults, we lose that sense of “wonder” so early in life …
Second is - Discovery - to discover on our own (because that is really important) and the last one is Experience - children need to experience everything by themselves.
If you’re wondering what kind of opportunities for learning through play or what type of activities will happen at Playshare Pre-School and how the new preschool program looks like, please have a look at our monthly calendar (on the back of the newsletter!)
We are looking forward to be part of your child’s life and education this year!
Miss Lisa is wishing you all an amazing year!
Playshare Pre-School is a community gem located in beautiful downtown Penticton.
We are a licensed non-profit preschool managed by our parent membership and its elected executive board.
Parents support the preschool by serving on the board (meetings every 2 months), contributing skills and/or helping in fundraising efforts.
The preschool opened in the early 1980s and is now happily serving a second generation of children.
Qualified ECE teachers deliver a unique play-based early childhood program in a calm and welcoming classroom.
Our indoor gym is a big open space where children can zoom or bike around a track, have fun on the trampoline and climber, as well as, enjoy play centres and dress-up.
Through stimulating play, we nurture growth in self-confidence, responsibility and a love for learning.
Childhood only happens once in a lifetime.
Lisa graduated from York University in Toronto, Ontario with a BA in Psychology in 1997. She spent her next 10 years as a Teaching Assistant at Blaisdale Montessori School in Pickering, where she specialized in working with children between 3 and 5 years old. Lisa and her family moved to Penticton in 2007. Soon after arriving in Penticton, she began working at Playshare Pre-School. This fall, she is starting her 14 th year at
Playshare. Lisa has taken Early Childhood Education courses through Northern Lights College, and has maintained an ECE Assistant Certificate. Lisa loves watching children learn and grow, and feels privileged to play a small role in their development. She has learned through experience that every child is unique, and that they learn best when able to explore and get their hands dirty. Her students remind her that every day is new; to embrace and approach each day’s challenge with fresh eyes.

"... the teacher's task is first to nourish, and assist, to watch, encourage, guide, induce, rather than to interfere, prescribe or restrict" - Maria Montessori.
Children - like flowers - need to be given the freedom to grow at their own pace and blossom when they are ready.
At Playshare Pre-School, early childhood education focuses on learning environments - specifically, the child's physical environment, the people the child interacts with, and the experiences the child has.
These are all key to fostering the child’s ability to adapt and learn.
“Childhood is not a race to see how quickly a child can read, write and count. It is a small window of time to learn and develop at the pace that is right for each individual child.
Earlier is not better.
Respect your child by letting his interest lead the way” – Magda Gerber.

Play is the great motivating force in a young child’s learning; children learn best through play. We create opportunities for playful hands-on exploration of the fascinating world of arts and science through our classroom centres, because children learn more when they are playing. Play develops children’s creativity and problem solving skills. Play is healthy. It promotes strength, coordination and brain development. Play teaches new skills and builds children’s self-esteem. Play teaches children social skills that help them develop friendships. Play allows children the opportunity to develop speech, language and listening skills. Children talk and listen while they play. The more vocabulary a child is exposed to on a day-to-day basis, the greater the variety of words a child will incorporate into play. Play improves cognitive development - children who engage in pretend play tend to have more sophisticated levels of interaction with others. Play helps to promote the development of social skills. Children who play with their parents and peers learn how relationships work through their play experiences. Many people don’t realize that social skills are a vital part of language development. Language is so much more than simply spoken words!

Parents receive a monthly newsletter and a calendar of events. Teachers endeavour to give daily verbal feedback to parents at drop off and pick up times. Meetings like these are just part of the overall, ongoing communication you have with us, the teachers. The parent-teacher communication gives the parents a chance to spend more time with the teachers focusing on just their child (vs. quick check-ins at the beginning and end of the day). Communication is truly a two-way street. If there is something going on at home - the birth of a new sibling, a move, a divorce, a death in the family - definitely let us know what is going on. Please do it sooner rather than later, even if you need to ask for a conference/call/quick chat outside of the normal schedule. Even if your child is behaving fine at home, life events like these can definitely impact a child's behaviour. As parents and teachers, we want to hear good things about our children, but no child is perfect (let's remember that nobody is perfect). If we (as teachers) mention something that could be a problem - whether it is a speech delay or some other developmental delay - kindly listen to what we have to say without defensiveness. We will work together - with you - to come up with a plan of action. If you need time to think it over, please let us know. Please remember, the common goal is to help your child succeed. Preschool is more about building social and emotional skills than academic ones.
